1 Minute 1 Question Production Log
On Monday 23rd January I started on my pre-production work on 1 Minute 1 Question as I did the second research on viral videos of 50 people 1 Question so we understand how we can our own in the same style. Then I did my treatment, budget sheet and location recce.
I and Chevy wanted to work together as it will be easy for us because Chevy can use his camera and he is the cameraman and I am the sound with the zoom mica and the boom pole. We decided to film at Birmingham where we have a more chance to get a lot of interviews being a big city. Birmingham being the closet place for me and Chevy to meet up and film. We didn’t want to film in Burton, as it wasn’t big and we are getting tired of filming Burton. We didn’t want to film in Derby because I will have to travel even more and I would have to pay but also many of our colleagues were going to film in Derby, so we wanted to be different.
I and Chevy thought we should have three days free for filming encase the weather is bad the wind and rain. So the dates we chose were 26th, 27th and 28th January.
On Wednesday 25th I and Chevy decided to film the next day which was Thursday 26th January. We said to meet at Birmingham New Street train station at 11.30ish am and film around about 12 noon at lunch time as it will get busy at that time and we think it be dead quite in the morning.
On Thursday 26th at 12.15pm we started to film at St Martin’s Church as we started on my video (1 Minute 1 Question) which the question was “If you could go back in time, what would you change?” We got set up and filmed our first interview of a teenager but the problem was that the sound was caught by the wind so you couldn’t hear a word what he said. So we decided to film somewhere else, has a hold the sound mica and the boom walking around to hear if there is any wind. We tried to different location, one was near by Waterstones and the other was near by the cinema but still there was wind. Till we find an ally away with a hotel on the side where people are walking through. The sound was perfect no wind as it blocked it by the ally away and the two buildings.
The location was really good as well as you see at the background people walking pass and walking at the entrance of the ally away. We both thought of having 15 interviews each. But many people said no to us didn’t won’t to be interviewed or didn’t have any time; some people said yes and helped out. Chevy worked on the focus of the interviewer is in focus and the background out of focus. I made sure I can hear them well from the zoom mica and had it ready when someone said yes to use. We did a realise form but it had to be in my note pad as the paper was flying away and we needed something hard to write on. We felt we only needed about 10 interviews each and one more interview for luck but also to have a better interview. Once we finished my interviews which were at round about 2pm then we filmed Chevy’s video, but we couldn’t have the same location, but the wind was still bad so we switch the camera to the end of the entrance filming the opposite. Chevy’s question was “Where would you like to wake up the next day?” again we filmed about 12 interviews and finished at 3.30ish pm. Then I wanted to film establishing shots of St Martin’s Church and the people walking behind it. We were about to film a shot near by the bull ring where we had a good shot of the church at the background and people walking towards us. But the security came over and said sorry we can’t place a tripod on the ground because of health and safety. They were very helpful because they said to go to the main office and to get permission to use the tripod. So we did, we went to the office. The sectary was very helpful she gave use the telephone number and said we need a letter from the tutor. So I and Chevy went to down the bullring to film the Church of its clock by each 9 seconds as this was part of my video which links to the question to do with time. In editing I can change the speed and have the clock going backwards has it is to with going back into time. Then we filmed People walking up the top of the bullring by 2 seconds each shot. Again for my video has I will have the people going backwards all to do with time. When that was finished, we finished filming about 5ish pm and went back home.
